WilllkommenMuddyGeek is the tale of my personal learning experiences with gardening, "going green," and technology like Linux and webOS.
As of March 2011, I'm a Purdue University Master Gardener Intern. I've gardened most of my life starting early with my mom. For several years, I was pent up in apartments without any gardening to speak of. We now have several acres where my wife and I have set up a 500+ square foot raised bed mostly organic garden. We're striving towards eventually expanding our garden out by a couple hundred more square feet plus rebuilding a small orchard including apple trees, blueberries, strawberries, and briars. We grow an eclectic mix of veggies including all blue potatoes and purple carrots. The garden remains mostly organic and is there to put food on the table. We avoid the synthetic chemicals because they'll end up in us and our son if we do use them. I've also had a long passion for Linux and open source software. I run Ubuntu on the desktop and have a Palm Pre smartphone running webOS (based around the Linux kernel). The best advancements and most innovation comes when we can freely share ideas and thoroughly test them. Closed systems like OS X and Windows hide their code and prevent people from finding the flaws and improving them. The other part of this site comes from my environmentally friendly attitude. Sure, we recycle and have CFL bulbs installed. As we renovate our house and eventually build a new one (long story there), we're trying to incorporate most Earth friendly options. Mostly, they save money long term and reduce our impact. | Favorite SitesGarden
